HFA did very well in State Cup competition this year, proving our dominance in South Texas.
Islanders won the Division 2 final handily here in Houston, defeating Austin’s Celtic Cowboys 3-0.
Albion Athletic won Division 1 also handily and also here in Houston, defeating San Antonio’s SK United, also 3-0.
The ASC New Stars had a tough final game all the way down in Brownsville against the always-competitive Barracudas. The Barracudas won 6-2 against a small ASC side of only 14 able to make the long trip and 12 healthy enough to play. ASC was without their high goal scorer of the year and their primary defender and with only one sub, the south Texas heat made for a rough outing.
Congratulations to all three teams for making it to the final and representing HFA so well. And thanks to all the HFA teams who competed in the South Texas State Cup Tournament this year.
The State Cup is an extended tournament that includes the best teams in South Texas, which means everywhere in Texas except the Dallas area. Divisions include Premier, Div. 1, Div 2 and Over 30s. Teams go through several rounds of competitions in various cities and the winners get sizeable prize money, a trophy and huge bragging rights.
