HFA 20/21 Soccer Season Team Registration OPEN!!!
Posted Jul 17, 2020

Hope everyone having a great summer and is staying safe, healthy and sane!

The fall is fast approaching and Regular Registration for the 20/21 HFA Soccer Season is now OPEN and we will be accepting team registration fees through Monday, August 10th!

Remember, the earlier you submit your registration fee, the more efficiently we can get the season organized, divisions set, and games scheduled :)

SPECIAL NOTE :

The HFA Board understands that the recent surge in COVID cases will increase uncertainty regarding the start of the fall season, which may increase a number of teams to be reluctant to submit their team registration fees so far in advance September games. With this in mind, the HFA Board has concluded that it would be in everyone's best interest if we held off on processing any submitted team registration fee payments for the 20/21 season until a time where HFA can be certain that organized games will be allowed to start safely and on time, the week after Labor Day weekend.

If you are certain that you want to return for the 20/21 season, but are concerned about being "on the hook" for the team registration fee, this measure has been implimented to allay those fears. HFA strongly urges you to submit your team registration fees as early as possible so we are able to get everything organized well before the slated start of the season, which will make HFA much more agile to adjust to any potential delays.

To reiterate, we will only charge the credit card provided at a time when we have received reassurances and confirmations from state and local authorities, our governing body (USSSA), and the fields we rent from that we are able to resume play.

A copy of the 20/21 HFA Team Registration Fees From can be found above and if you have any questions, concerns, doubts, or thoughts about the 20/21 season do not hesitate to reach out to HFA League Administrator David Caradonio via email at hfaregistrar@gmail.com :)

HFA 19/20 Season Officially Cancelled
Posted May 30, 2020

Gents,

First and foremost, we want to thank you for your patience as we worked to make sense of the situation we have all found ourselves in due to the proliferation of COVID-19.  Sadly, despite our best efforts to restart play, we were unable to complete the 19/20 HFA Season as originally scheduled.

Having accepted that unhappy reality, the HFA Board of Directors and the League Administrator have been hard at work addressing the fallout from the early termination so we can put the 19/20 Season in the books and start looking forward to 20/21. Please note that a detailed explanation has been emailed to all HFA members listed as a manager or assitant manager in our system. That detailed explanation contains an exstensive breakdown as to how and why the HFA Board came to a final decision regarding the conclusion of a season prematurely ended due to the impact of local and national policies enacted to mitigate against proliferation of COVID-19.

19/20 Final Division Standings

The Board voted unanimously that all Divisions are concluded and that Final Standings are determined on a points-per-game basis. (Excepting the O40 Division, which has had the spring season voided. The O40 Division plays two separate competitions, one in the fall and another in the spring, with each competition consisting of 11 games.)

Financial Credits For Games Not Played

The Board has voted unanimously that Member teams will receive a credit for games not played. The Board voted unanimously that all games not played due to the cancellation of the 19/20 season shall result in a credit back to the Member team’s account at the rate of $100 per game.

As you know, over the course of the 19/20 season, teams incurred fees for fines for forfeits, red cards, yellow card accumulations, and new players registrations in excess of the 18 pre-paid player registrations (remember, your team registration covers 18 pre-paid player registrations at rate of $30 per player). During the first two weeks of June, HFA will provide each primary team manager, via email, a current statement with the team’s account balance, as well as copies of all open invoices and credits for your review. In addition, we will send you a credit card authorization form that you will fill out and return to cover your unpaid balances, so we can close your 19/20 account.  Any open credits for un-played games will first be applied to any unpaid invoice amounts.  If, after that exercise, your team has remaining open credits, those credits will be applied to your 20/21 team registration fees.

The decision to issue such size-able credits for games not played is a one-off decision that is entirely predicated on the economic impact created by the stated need to practice social distancing and stay at home measures in an attempt to curtail the potential spread and impact of COVID-19 in the US.  This decision to approve the issuance of credits was made only after an audit of HFA financials was conducted and a detailed review of the financial implications of taking such an action had been deemed reasonable and would in no way harm the short-term and long-term financial health of this organization.

Quick Calendar for Summer 2020 and Start of Fall 2020

June 2020

  • June 1st through June 12th - Electronic copies of Team Statements including Open Invoices and Credits to be provided to primary team manager.
    • Please understand HFA has 120 team accounts to process and producing each team's statements, invoices and credits in electronic format is a time-consuming process. Your account will be processed in as timely a manner as possible.
  • June 15th - 20/21 Intent to Return Forms will be emailed out.
    • This is the form where you will be allowed to provide HFA with your First, Second, and Third preference for 20/21 division placement (no fees will be due at this time).
  • June 30th - 20/21 Early Team Registration will OPEN
    • Please note, you will be able to submit your team registration with a specific payment date, but your registration will not be considered as received until HFA processes your payment for the 20/21 team registration fees.
    • $100 Early Bird Discount will be offered to all teams who authorize payment of their 20/21 Team Registration Fees by July 13th at 4pm.

July 2020

  • September 10th - (Tentative) First game of Thursday night O30 League games.
  • September 12th & 13th - (Tentative) First games of Saturday night and Sunday Regular League games.

In wrapping up the 19/20 Season, the Board has taken great care to stay within the authority granted by the By-Laws and Rules of Play, while also considering past precedent, input solicited from the Member teams, the unique circumstances presented by the COVID-19 quarantine, and, as always, the best interest of the players, the teams, and the league.  We look forward to a less-eventful 20/21 Season.

We know this is a lot to take in so if you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to David at hfaregistrar@gmail.com and we can address any concerns you might have.

We will be sending out updates regularly throughout the summer months and David will be getting you your electronic team account documents in the coming weeks so stay tuned :)

Sincerely,

The HFA Board

HFA COVID-19 Update - Final Decision 19/20 Season to be made Friday, 5/15
Posted May 11, 2020

We want to thank everyone that took the time to provide us information via the HFA COVID-19 Survey. The information provided is a vital tool in determining how to proceed. Please know that your feedback (whether it is for the restart of play or against the restart of play) is the primary contributing factor as to whether we will be able to finish out the 19/20 season.

With a super majority of responsive teams expressing interest in finishing out the remaining 19/20 games with rescheduled games to be played in June, the HFA Board will be exhausting all possibilities before shutting down the season. With that being said, the board is still very concerned about the risk COVID-19 poses and has yet to receive a date confirmation of when we could potentially restart play.

Therefore, the HFA Board will be making a decision on how to proceed by next Friday, May 15th. We planned on having more information by today, but we are currently still waiting on an update regarding a possible return date and any potential restricted capacity to host official league games at Bear Creek, Bayland Park, and HSP. We are also waiting for a definitive directive from USSSA (the organization that sanctions HFA play) which is pretty much dependent on fields being opened.

Basically, the HFA Board is going to wait one more week to see if it is even feasible to get the remainder of our 19/20 games played. If we get the green light from the fields and then a green light on the sanctioning of our games via USSSA; then the HFA Board will consider the feedback from the survey and come to a conclusion as to how to proceed. The HFA Board is still committed to getting all games from the 19/20 season played, but only if those games can be played in a safe environment and in a reasonable amount of time so as to not interrupt our member's summer plans.

More information to be provided next Friday, 5/15, and stay safe!

HFA COVID-19 Update - League Play Still Suspended
Posted Apr 27, 2020

HFA Members,

Another couple of weeks have passed and it looks as if state and local officials have committed to getting things opened back up.  While this is promising news, there is still some uncertainty regarding when we will be able to get games going again.

For now, HFA league play will remain suspended with the hopes that games will be allowed to restart at some point in May. We are waiting for USSSA to indicate when they will sanction league games, when local municipalities will allow access to the fields for use by leagues, and when the mask order is going to be relaxed to allow amateur team sports to be played. The HFA Board is currently discussing the possiblilty that our remaining games will not be played, but the Board is not yet ready to call an end to the 19/20 season until all potential solutions have been reviewed. With that being said, we will be sending our team managers a short survey in the next 24 hours that will help us better understand how long the current suspension can be observed.

HFA will continue to monitor the situation and will provide another update by Friday, May 8th at the latest. Please note we will reschedule all cancelled matches as soon as possible, but will need first need to confirm our actual return date and once that date has been validated, we will need some time to work with the field coordinators to ensure availability.

Finally, HFA is committed to the health and well-being of its players, team managers, staff, and families. While we continue to actively monitor the situation we strongly encourage players and families to practice repeated and proper CDC hygiene procedures on and off the field, including:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Don't shake hands during or after a game.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

HFA COVID-19 Update - League Play Suspended through 4/30/2020
Posted Apr 13, 2020

HFA Members,

Another couple of weeks have passed since our last update and unfortunately COVID-19 is still going strong. We promised an update regarding the restart of play, so here it goes:

With the City of Houston's Stay Home, Work Safe Order being extended through the end of the month and USSSA (our sanctioning body) also requiring the suspension of all league play through the end of April, it will come as no surprise that HFA will be extending its current suspension of play until Thursday, April 30th. HFA is still committed to getting league play back online as soon as the city and USSSA indicate that it is safe to resume play and it does appear that both national and local government officials are looking to relax social distancing directives in the coming weeks and there is a very strong indication that we will finally be able to resume play in May.

For Regular League teams, your expected first match back will be Sunday, May 3rd (or Saturday, May 2nd for Premier teams)

For O40 teams, your expected first match back will be Tuesday, May 5th

For O30 teams, your expected first match back will be Thursday, May 7th

HFA will continue to monitor the situation and will provide another update by Monday, April 27th at the latest.

HFA COVID-19 Latest Update
Posted Mar 27, 2020

HFA Members,

It has been a couple weeks since we first suspended HFA League play due to the increased proliferation of COVID-19 and we are due for an update so here it goes:

With the City of Houston enacting ever stricter social distancing policies and USSSA (our sanctioning body) also requiring the indefinite suspension of all league play, it will come as no surprise that HFA will be extending its current suspension of play until Friday, April 17th. We are all itching to get league play back online as soon as the city and USSSA indicate that it is safe to resume play and, along with many other soccer organizations, we are hopeful that we will be able to resume games on 4/18 and 4/19.

With that being said, the situation we all find ourselves in is completely unprecendented and we should all be prepared for the fact that there is a real the possibility HFA will be required to further extend the suspension through the end of April. HFA will continue to monitor the situation and will provide another update by Monday, April 13th at the latest.

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

HFA COVID-19 Update
Posted Mar 23, 2020

In the interest of all HFA members health and safety, effective immediately, the suspension of all league activities until March 31 has been deemed by the HFA Board boh prudent and necessary. This suspension includes all O40, O30 and Regular League games currently scheduled in March. We will be re-evaluating the situation as March comes to a close and hope to have an update soon.

The current plan is to resume league play at some point in April. We are hopeful that we can provide a definitive update and confirm our official return date soon and have tentatively set Friday, March 27th as a date for a formal update so please be on the look out for that update later this month.

Finally, HFA is committed to the health and well-being of its players, team managers, staff, and families. While we continue to actively monitor the situation we strongly encourage players and families to practice repeated and proper CDC hygiene procedures on and off the field, including:

ASC Newstars To Compete At The Werner Fricker Open Cup Finals!!!
Posted Jul 10, 2019

Best of luck to ASC Newstars as they represent HFA, Houston, Texas, and Region 3 at the Werner Fricker Open Cup Finals in Baltimore this August. We will all be pulling for you to bring home the Cup!

Many of you may not be aware that each year the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) organizes a competition aptly named the National Cup. This competition is held across four different divisions named the Amateur Cup, the Open Cup (not the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup), the Over30 Cup, and the Over 40 Cup. With the US being so large, USASA has created a two-tiered tournament by splitting the country into 4 different regions; having the best amateur teams play in a regional tournament with the 4 winners going on to compete against each other for the National Cup and the title of best amateur team in the nation!

Region 3 is comprised of 14 states, including Texas, and the top 2 teams from each state can compete in the regionals tournament. Our very own ASC Newstars were one of the top 2 teams that qualified to represent Texas in this year’s regional tournament. This year’s Region 3 Regional Tournament was hosted in Nashville, Tennessee and ASC Newstars competed in the Amater Cup division, finishing second among a field of 16 teams. This second-place finish qualified ASC Newstars for the Werner Fricker Open Cup since Region 3 did not have an Open Cup division at the Regional Tournament this year. Therefore, ASC Newstars will represent Region 3 at the Werner Fricker Open Cup Finals in Baltimore, August 16-18, and they will compete against the 3 top teams from the other 3 regions. The teams that ASC Newstars will be facing are very strong and have a long and rich history in National Cup competitions.

ASC has been involved in many tournaments, all over the country, for the past 45 years. Being a regular particpant in HFA and competing against great teams on a regular basis in one of the best leagues in the country, they have had some exceptional competition to prepare them for the rigors of a National Cup Tournament. The teams that strive to enter and compete in the National Cup need a special kind of year-long commitment from players, coaches, and team owners, all of which can be very difficult and demanding for an amateur team. ASC has a proven a willingness to take on this difficult task and have a consistent winning record to show for all their efforts! ASC can boast numerous HFA League titles and HFA Memorial Cup wins, they have won the Texas State Cup, and represented Region 3 at the highest level many times by winning regionals. Unfortunately, the National Cup, and the title of best amateur team in the country, has eluded them up to this point, but perhaps this year will be ASC’s year to bring the National Cup back to Houston!
